The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner and it brings lots of interesting events to Viterbo: entertainment, culture, food and wine…there is something for everybody to enjoy the magic of Christmas at its best.

The most anticipated event is the second edition of the Caffeina Christmas Village which – from November 24th to January 7th – will transform Viterbo’s Medieval city centre into a fascinating Christmas village. 80.000 visitors enjoyed its attractions last year, kids and adults alike, hence booking in advance is highly recommendable.

Santa’s House will be once again the main attraction: kids will be free to visit many different rooms, chat with the elves, get close to the reindeers and have a photo taken with Santa Claus himself! Piazza San Lorenzo will be even more beautiful this year, thanks to a vintage carousel placed right in front of the cathedral. In the nearby Palazzo dei Papi (Papal Palace), the biggest indoors nativity in the world will not fail to fascinate you with its life-size statues and detailed reproduction of a Medieval village.

The Teatro Incantato (literally: enchanted theatre) in via Cavour, inside the recently opened Teatro Caffeina, will run several shows every day among which “The sword in the stone”, “Pinocchio at Christmas”, “The wizard of Oz” and “The Little Prince”. Then again, if your kids are into something more adventurous, do not forget to pay a visit to the Tana del Drago (the dragon’s den), located in the exotic gardens right under the Paradosso bridge

Christmas in Viterbo

Traditions and unmissable events

As Christmas is all about traditions, the curators of the Colle del Duomo Museum have organized an interesting exhibition this year: several nativity scenes, coming from all over Italy, will be on display in the museum adjacent to the cathedral until January 7th. The Mostra dei Presepi Nazionali is a remarkable collection of ancient figurines that take the visitors on a journey through the different regions of Italy via their characteristic nativity scenes.

Since the festive season would not be so festive without a market, numerous stalls  – selling gifts, street food and mulled wine – will be permanently placed inside the Caffeina Christmas Village and a vintage flea market will take place in Piazza dei Caduti on the third Sunday of December.
